Our Story: Tailoring in Kata Noi Since 1997
Amorn Tailors started in Kata Noi, Phuket, in 1997.
Before opening the shop, Amorn had spent years selling fabrics, so he already knew how different materials behaved, how they fell, how they moved, and what worked for different kinds of clothing. Renu brought something different to the partnership: a love of fashion, a sharp eye for detail, and a very clear sense of what looks good on a person.
At the time, they were also raising a young family. The shop started small, but the idea was simple: make clothes well, look after people properly, and let the work speak for itself.
Starting Out in Kata Noi
Kata Noi was very different in the late 1990s.
It was quieter, more local, and far less developed than it is today. The roads were rough, infrastructure was limited, and the area felt like its own little corner of Phuket.
A lot of our early customers came from nearby hotels, especially Katathani, and many were Scandinavian travellers who returned year after year. Word of mouth did most of the work.
One person would have a suit, shirt, dress or jacket made, go home, and later send a friend or family member our way. That is how much of the business grew.

He has decades of experience with fabrics and a natural way of connecting with people. He is usually the one asking where you are from, what you are looking for, and what you actually need from the garment.
Meet Renu
Renu will notice the clothes. She will look at the fit, proportions, fabric, and what might suit the person better.
She is more focused on style and the details that can completely change how something looks and feels. That difference has always worked well for us. Amorn brings the fabric knowledge and the people side. Renu brings the detail, fit and design.
That balance is a big part of how they work. Some clients arrive with a very clear idea, while others come in with a photo, a Pinterest board, or no idea where to begin. Amorn and Renu guide the process together, from fabric and fit to buttons, linings, colour, and finishing details.
After nearly 30 years, they still approach each garment personally and with the same goal: to make something that feels right for the person wearing it.
Nearly 30 Years Later
Some of the people who first came to us years ago still order from us today. Some bring their children. Others contact us from overseas, order remotely, or meet us when we travel to Europe.
A lot has changed since 1997, including Phuket, Kata Noi, fashion, and the way people shop. But the part we still enjoy most is the same.
Someone walks in with an idea. We talk through it, choose the fabric, take measurements, make the garment, adjust it, and eventually see it come together on the person. After nearly 30 years, that still feels satisfying.
